Yesterday I thought I just had allergies because the pine trees and oak trees are giving off lots of pollen, there is yellow dust everywhere! So I took an antihistamine and used the Neti pot to flush out my sinuses. I also took xtra vitamin C and Echinachea before bed.
This morning I woke up with a clogged head and ears, runny nose and achey all over.
What kinds of remedies do you guys use that may help head off this cold?

ZICAM it works. I had a cold for two days last time. I am taking it now as my granddaughter has been sick all week with one and I have the early systoms. The faster you start taking it the better it works.

I will do the ACV right now, but I don't know anything about bentanite clay. Where do I get that? Sorry, I've never heard of it before, but I am very open minded and would like to try it.

Thanks Micki, I may have to try that too.

Take a teaspoon of locally produced HONEY each morning. It has to be "LOCAL" for it to be affective. (this is not just for colds but allergies also)
>>>My grandma's old stand by....rock candy and whisky<<<
If you can handle it, also take a teaspoon of vinegar every morning, helps to clean out inpurities.

I start taking 1000 mg of Vitamin C in September, then STOP taking it around April. Normally buy one bottle of appx 200 and take them all, one daily until gone.

But, DH is a firm beleiver in something called "Wellness Formula". We found it at the local health food store. It's manufactured by Bio Align, and fairly pricey. He starts taking it according to package directions at the first sign of anything coming on. He swears it's the only thing that keeps him from coming down with everything that everybody at work always brings in with them.

Wellness is something that can be taken continuously, but he doesn't do that.

another thing to do -- go to your friendly neighborhood Chinese restaurant and order HOT SOUR SOUP

don't know what all goes into that, but am sure the chicken stock (LOL), pepper, tofu, are boosters to your immune system, plus the hot moist air as you eat, soothes your nasal passages and throat

you don't have to LIKE it (though I do), but just consider it "good medicine" and it's probably cheaper than NyQuil ...

I found this off the internet, it will gve you an idea of it's use fullness.
Bentonite, also referred to as Montmorillonite, is one of the most effective and powerful healing clays used to treat both internal and external maladies and has been used by indigenous cultures since before recorded history because of its healing benefits.

Bentonite clay not only draws toxic material out of the body if taken internally, but also reduces pain and infection in open wounds on both humans and animals.

When mixed with water, bentonite swells up (this is imperceptible to the naked eye) and becomes very porous. The electrical and molecular components change and produce an electrical charge. This enables it to absorb Its highest power lies in the ability to absorb toxins, impurities, heavy metals and other internal contaminants.

Bentonite is a sedimentary clay from volcanic ash. It is an effective and cleansing clay if used externally as a face mask, in the bath or externally as a clay poultice. Internally it can be added to water or glazed upon food to help those with sensitive palates.

Bentonite attracts and neutralizes poisons in the intestinal tract. It can eliminate food allergies, food poisoning, mucus colitis, spastic colitis, viral infections, stomach flu, and parasites (parasites are unable to reproduce in the presence of clay).

There is virtually no digestive disease that clay will not treat. It enriches and balances blood. It adsorbs radiation (think cell phones, microwaves, x-rays, TVs and irradiated food, for starters).

It has been used for alcoholism, arthritis, cataracts, diabetic neuropathy, pain treatment, open wounds, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, stomach ulcers, animal and poisonous insect bites, acne, anemia.

To assist in the removal of toxic substances in the digestive system
Bacterial food poisoning, organic and inorganic toxicity
To cleanse the colon and promote proper bacterial balance in the intestines
To begin the process of detoxification of the liver
To stimulate liver function
As a part of short term cleansing programs used to promote good health
Critical to support external healing clay treatment ( pelotherapy )
Removal of heavy metals and recovery from chemical therapies and radiation
With special long term treatments, to increase T-cell count and fix free oxygen in the blood stream
Reduction of free radical damage ( thus anti-aging )
Improved immune system function
Improved cellular respiration
Improved digestive efficiency
Contraindications:

Bentonite and other healing clays are not to be taken internally concurrently with life-sustaining prescribed medications without careful medical supervision.
Bentonite and other healing clays used internally in conjunction with medications or herbal programs may lessen the effects of medications without careful administration.
Bentonite and other healing clays should not be used internally with those who currently have high blood pressure, without proper supervision and other supportive treatment.
Bentonite and other healing clays should not be used by those with a clinically diagnosed iron intolerance ( a rare condition ) without seeing a laboratory analysis of the clay used or blood sample monitoring.

ZICAM & COLD-EEZE HEALTH RISKS

What would you give to get rid of your cold . . . is it worth one of your senses?

Several users of Zicam have reported an intense burning sensation in their nasal cavities immediately after using the product, followed by a loss of smell and taste long after they were over their cold.

ZICAM and Cold-Eeze are over-the-counter homeopathic nasal solutions that claim to reduce the symptoms and duration of the common cold. Zicam is applied directly to the nasal surface with either a spray or gel swab and Cold-Eeze is a nasal spray. Both products contain the active ingredient Zincum Gluconicum, sometimes referred to as Zinc Gluconate. Some medical personnel believe that this ingredient causes a caustic action on the nasal passages and leads to a loss of smell (also known as “anosmia”).

What you should know:

Nasal sprays containing zinc, such as Zicam and Cold-Eeze, have been shown to severely damage or destroy one's ability to smell. This is a condition known as Anosmia.
Inhibiting the sense of smell, in turn, greatly decreases the ability to taste.
It has been known for decades that zinc compounds can cause nasal nerve damage.
Despite awareness of these dangers, neither Zicam or Cold-Eeze provided adequate warnings to the public
