It's day 18 and my incubator is in the garage. It's got cold suddenly here and I can't get the humidity above 43!!!! I keep adding water but i can't add any more than I have because it's pouring out the overflow holes!!! How do I bring up the humidity?

What kind of incubator do you have?

I had a Little Giant still air a little while ago and the humidity reader never worked. It was stuck at 45%

I suggest you get a hygrometer from the store. You may have really high humidity and not know it because your built in one may be faulty.

Good idea! Thanks

If you are filling the channels in the incubator and running water out of the holes, you are going to have higher humidity. Humidity is controlled by surface area. I just put my eggs into lock down last night and I run my bator pretty dry for incubation (30-35%) until lockdown. That is maintained by one channel in the bator having water in it. For lock down, I filled 2 channels and the humidity went up to 69%. It is really crucial to successful hatches to have a calibrated (preferably by you) hygrometer in the incubator. The ones that come with the cheaper styrofoam incubators are notoriously wrong. I love my styrofoam incubator but I completely ignore the humidity readings.
