HELP!!!! I can not get the humidity high enough

I took 2 lids off containers and put them in the corners of the LG. They just fit between the water trays and the corner. That got the humidity up another 5%. Then I threw in damp paper towels as needed and when I got desperate used a funnel to just pour water through the vent holes and let it land in the open area. Some of it ran out since there are holes there but I wiped that up and the thin layer that remained upped the humidity farther. LGs really need more for water trays. Those few little troughs are not enough. In my hova right now I have the 2 largest and 1 smaller section filled with water and it's just right. The LG doesn't even have half that much space for water.

I use warm water and have had only a problem once. since its been rt. on.but I have a Gensis1588 and enough space for water. and only one plug.

I bought two more hydrometers yesterday put them in and one reads 68% the other reads 72% and the old one reads 44%. I did have to add alot more water but the humidity was correct.

Good Luck on your hatch!!
I keep a sponge in my incubator i never fill my wells...If I need more water I use a mcdonalds straw and wet the sponge.Never opening the incubator, just poke it through the plug hole...

Works for me!

I am on day 4 with the LG, bought a digital thermometer/hygrometer and still says the humidity is in the 20-25% range for the past 4 days now. I have filled the water reseviors to the max, and added a wet wash cloth and i also mist the eggs a few times a day. I figure if there is water in it it has to be good right? This is my first time with an incubator and so far it has caused quite a few grey hairs. Before i added my egg turner and got the digital thermometer/hygrometer everything appeared to be perfect. I have the fan kit as well. with all the bells and whistles in there it leaves me no room to add a darn thing to up the humidity so i guess i will be going the dry incubation method

I don't know what the right humidity is - there is always such debate about it - so many different opinions.

The first time I ever hatched back in November - before I knew anything at all and before I found BYC, 5 of 12 eggs hatched following the LG Instructions.

The next time (3 weeks later) 9 of 12 hatched still following the LG Instructions.

3 weeks ago - 8 of 10 hatched - all were developed. This time I bought a digital thermometer/humidity and added the auto egg turner. I could not keep my temperature regulated for anything. It was up and down by 2-3 degrees all the time.

Today is day 22 - only 2 of 30 have hatched, one died pipping out, 7 more are pipped - this time I increased humidity from 41% to 67% and I think my chicks are drowing.

I think when I had less information and followed the basic instructions, my hatches were better. I pulled the sponges this morning and let the humidity drop back to 45% - I figure this hatch is a bust anyway.

Expensive learning curve. I'm never increasing my humidity that high again.
