I've got a very weak, almost 24 hour old chick. I was advised to give electrolytes

in his water, and luckily I had a pack. I've gotten the pack, and read through the

directions, but I don't get it. This what it says:

Directions for use

Drinking water:
Mix contents of this pouch (4 oz) in 128
gallons of water.

For Automatic Proportions:
Mix contents of this pouch (4 oz) in one gallon
of water to prepare stock solution. Set the proportioner
to deliver one (1) fluid ounce of stock solution. per gallon
of drinking water. Prepare fresh stock solution daily.

Feed use:
Mix contents of this pouch (4 oz) per 500 lbs. of
complete feed.

Problem is, this chick only has a cap with MAYBE a teaspoon of water.
How am I supposed to mix this? I'm really scared I'm going to give him to much.

Thanks

(B T W if this is in the wrong section, please forgive me.)

You can get the animal Vitamins and Electrolytes at TSC. It's about $4.00.
You mean like Pedialyte? I think I read you can use it, again, I don't know how much. I know you can use Gatorade, too.
This is my first year with chickens, I am just passing on what I have read. I do know that I wish someone would have answered my post about the dosages for meds. I was given very confusing links. I was hoping to make a chart and my my own BYC page with the info. It would make many people's lives much easier.

When I mixed mine I had the same instructions. What saved me was a kitchen scale that has grams on it. Here's the math:

4 oz per 128 gallons is 1 oz per 32 gallons

1 oz = 28 grams; so about one gram per gallon of water.

I mixed up a stock solution of about three grams in an 8 oz canning jar, kept it in the refrigerator and used about 1/3 of it per gallon. It worked well.

If you give the chick egg, and it's a good suggestions, you can also just mash the yolk and make a puree out of it, mixed with some water or something.

Good luck,
Mary
