I’m somewhat new to raising chickens (this is my second generation) and I can’t quite tell if this is a rooster or hen. It’s a 6 Week old Whiting True Green. I ordered pullets and this hatchery claims to have a 90% accuracy rate. But this is the only chick developing waddles and the comb seems to be larger than the other chicks at this time (they’re all different breeds, however). I did read online that the size of the waddles and combs are often the biggest reason people misgender chicks and that it can be misleading... so I don’t know what to think. By all means I am pretty new when it comes to gendering chicks so please let me know what you think!

I would say that he's a cockerel, the size and brightness of the comb:age, give it away for most cases, but also dramatic curving of the tail feathers, and saddle/neck feathers. Hope that was helpful!

While I appreciate all of your efforts, you were all wrong (Thankfully)! It actually was a hen! This particular breed of whiting true greens from McMurry Hatchery just happens to have hens with large combs. I guess you really can’t always tell the gender based on the combs.

Unfortunately I don’t have any amazing pics or videos at the moment but here she is with some other young hens exploring a raspberry bush! (She’s the white one-sorry for the bad quality) Now she is 13 weeks old.

Thank you! However it was actually a hen (thankfully)
