Help! I don't know if my eggs will hatch!

Thanks! I just checked on our hen and she hopped up to say hello so I peeked at the eggs real quick before she plopped back down. Couldn't get a good look, but I think one of them might have the beginnings of a pip! Shell looked sort of cracked in one tiny spot, but it had not chipped off yet so not sure if the hole is completely open yet. She wasn't off for more than a few seconds though, so couldn't see much. Hoping things get rolling soon!

That is great! I wish that my eggs would pip!

We have a chick!! I heard more peeping from the remaining 4 eggs, one of which has a pip, praying the rest of these babies hatch successfully!

Oh how great and adorable! Did you hear peeping inside the shell at all? If so, how long after you heard it did it hatch? My little egg has been chirping for about 3-4 days WITHOUT a pip, darn it. Could you post more pictures of the future hatch-ees? What breed are they? So cute!

If you set the 28th, your hatch date was the 18th

If you heard peeping she's got some hatched under there or some working on hatching.

I think they may have just been a little too cool during their incubation period, maybe our hen got off the nest too much or something which slowed the process down. That is the explanation that the breeder gave me anyway . He didn't seem to think that was a problem at all, just said that would explain why they hatch a little later than expected. And an update, drumroll please....

Frankie hatched out Friday morning (about 8 hours shy of being day 23), I actually got to watch this little one take it's final push out of the shell! Our hen was a little rough with it shortly after, and the eggs as well, so I snatched it up and brought it inside to dry and warm up. Poor baby was shivering . Took a couple of hours to dry out, but it seemed to like being cuddled and I was happy to sit and hold it . To say I'm attached to that one...yeah, it stays even if it turns out to be a boy! It's so funny to me, this is the only egg we named prior to hatch. They were egg A, B, C, D, E and F. And for some reason I accidentally marked F as another E, so I "corrected" the E by writing out the name Frankie. Anyway, so funny it was the first to hatch, since it had a name we were all a little more attached to it from the get go. So in love with this baby!

Last night we had one more zip, and we heard it chirping loudly, but then the chirping became quiet and sounded gurgly. Checked a little while later and heard nothing. We ended up opening the shell to help it out, but it had already passed. Not really sure what happened, but it was in the zip stage for a LONG time, nearly 15 hours at the point we opened the shell. So sad! It was fully formed, all yolk absorbed, no blood or anything obvious. Just not really sure what happened to it, maybe malpositioned or something. I suspect this was the egg that had the saddle shaped air cell which I have read prevents some challenges for hatching and often they don't make it. This is our first batch of hatching eggs though, so I have no idea.

At the last check on Lucky last night, there was one more egg pipped, we could see the chicks beak poking out of the shell, so adorable! That was at the time we opened up the deceased chick...can I just say it was so hard to walk away from that little one after seeing that we lost one that didn't hatch properly?! I wanted to pull it out and help it hatch right away to avoid another loss, but my gut said it was best to leave it alone and let nature do it's thing. The other 2 eggs seemed to be fully intact, although I didn't actually pick them up to look them over, so I am not really sure what their status was to be honest. I heard peeping, but not sure if it was from them or the one that had pipped. I barely slept last night wondering what we would find this morning!

Woke up early, went to check and found the two new babies! One was all fluffed up under our hen, the other was still pretty wet, cold and off in a corner of the nest by itself. For some reason our hen wasn't sitting on it. I brought both chicks inside, don't really trust our hen since she wasn't taking care of the one chick in the corner wet and cold. But she was NOT happy that I took the other chick! One egg remaining in her nest, who knows what will come of it, but for now we have 3 sweet baby chicks that seem to be happy and healthy!

We did hear peeping inside the shells a day or so before hatching. I could never tell exactly which egg was peeping though, so not sure how long they peeped before pipping/hatching. I hope your babies pop out soon!

And as of this morning, we had two more! They are lavender d'Anvers, a small bantam that kind of looks like an Ameraucana. That is what we have been told our hen (Lucky) is, she is so super sweet and friendly and we wanted more like her which is why we got the eggs in the first place. At the time she was our only bantam, and I felt bad that she was the only small bird in a flock of full size birds!

No, the chirping inside stopped and I had lost track/count of the days.....So yesterday my Dad and I cracked them open and found fully formed embryo. My Dad and I could not figure out what happened. They, as I said, were fully formed, but you know how they are supposed to draw in the yolk before pipping? Well, it appears that they never did that, so know I am wondering what caused their death. 6 eggs to begin with - 2 rotten eggs (oh how they stunk!!!

) = 4 eggs left. All of them had formed embryos but they died. The Silkie hen who was trying to hatch them kept trying to abandon her nest, probably her way of telling me they were dead. No, lol, she is on another nest of 12 ISA Brown eggs. She wants some babies! At TSC, the chicks are on sale for only .50! I wanted to buy some bantams, but I think 50 chickens in a small coop is just pushing it!

Oh I am so sorry to hear none of them hatched . We had two fully formed embryos that didn't hatch. One zipped almost all the way around but never finished, when I finally gave up on it and cracked it open I could see that it had absorbed all of the yolk, just no idea why it stopped zipping. The other never even popped. When we cracked it open we could see that it had a little bit of yolk left to absorb, but otherwise fully formed. But, the 3 that did hatch are 5 days now and doing great!

So funny your hen is sitting on more eggs, poor mama, she wants some babies! Good luck with your next hatch, hopefully it will be much more successful! And don't cave on the TSC chicks, hold out for the new hatchlings, it is worth the wait! Our 3 babies are only around 5 days younger than the 3 we got from my pet chicken.com and oh my goodness the difference in their temperament is night and day! Our hatchlings are so quiet and content, they never chirp as if they are in distress, they are happy little babies who enjoy being loved on by us. And we are kind of spoiling them, lots of time holding and cuddling them so they will be at ease with people as they grow up. But my 3 from MPC...ehhh, not so much. They freak out every time we approach the brooder, and don't seem to enjoy being handled by us. They are still seeet little babies, and I'm sure over time they will grow more fond of human interaction, but seeing the difference in the two groups has me hooked on hatching eggs! We will definitely be hatching more in the future . Good luck with your next batch of eggs, hopefully this group has great success!!
