My 15 week old Australorp has been acting really wierd. She sits with her feet in front of here and pants. Whenever anyone goes near her she but scoots backwards. She also has some nasty looking poop. It's not the runny cecal kind, mor like the solid ones but really runny. Couldn't feel her crop at all this afternoon. Please help

I have her in isolation but she is spazzing out can I put her back with the flock?

I put her back cus she was so stressed there was no way that it could be helping her. When I put her back another chicken walked right up to me and did a nasty poop like water with little green flecks in it. Should I be worried?

If you suspect coccidiosis you might go ahead and get some aprollium (Corid.) It is called Amprol in Canada I believe. It comes in liquid and powder. The dose is 1/2-1 ttsp powder or 2 tsp liquid in 1 gallon of water. Give for 5 days. Blood in stools may or may not be present. Change water daily.

Can older birds have cocci? She is 15 weeks. I thought that it was only chicks?

Oh sure it could be the heat. With a sick chicken you have got to rule everything out--heat stroke can kill. Try putting her in cool not cold water and see if she cools off. As I said before blood does not have to be present, and chickens of any age get cocci if the oocysts are brought into the property by new birds, or even on your shoes. There are 9 strains that affect chickens, and they become immune to the ones on your property by usually 10 weeks, but they can be infected by new strains at any age.
