Help...I hate my Rooster.

My neighbor should of culled her HUGE BR boy. He attacked so many people and it took her ages to rid of him. She couldn't cull him, so he went to her SIL's house. He's not nice to his hens either. He is bossy and they all have bare backs! He was nasty as a little baby chick too!

She's getting a BLRW on Monday! We both went together last week to see him. I picked him up and he fell asleep in my arms. Oh, I just melted. I wish I could have him.

When you place a towel or blanket over their heads, they lay very still as if paralyzed. I am going to drop a towel on him so I can pick him up and carry him around the yard! Can't wait to see his reaction to that! I am thinking, he will either get used to me picking him up and settle down, or he will run like crazy when he sees me coming. I am betting on the latter.

I love this thread!! in my experience and i have one specific Roo a buff orpington who is extremely aggressive there is not much you can do about it so you have two choices put up with it or get rid of him and get a new one hopefully he will have a better manners lol...second point i feel is a very important one if you dont like your rooster crowing you are probably not a true chicken lover and might be better off with a bird that doesnt make noise..

I carry a 4 foot 2x2 to guide my chickens... I don't hit or even touch them with it, but they act like it's the plauge. My roosters never charge me, but it just miggt be the stick.

Stupid Big Red thought he might take me on again today. I had a food bucket in my hand and he decided he just might have to go for it. Not for the food mind you. It was empty. He just isn't afraid of any buckets. Doesn't matter what size they are. But a skinny little stick sends him running. I had to grab a short stick off of the ground and show it to him. He pretended to be pecking at the scratch that wasn't there! LOL! And people think chickens are stupid.

Ours is about 23 weeks old. Our roo is just a crowing fool, and it is wearing on my wife. We like to keep the peace with the neighbors and they voiced concern over his crowing already. Their son works nights and sleeps during the day.

I think I know why he is so vocal. Our flock has bridged a gap between two other flocks in the area. I never really noticed crowing before, but I have heard faint crows in the distance. I believe our roo hears the other roos when they crow. That forces him to crow to mark his territory. Its a horrible cycle...

He has always been non aggressive. But I am seeing more assertiveness in his actions the last few days. I fear more aggressive/protective tendencies are on the horizon.

I know I really cant change his behavior. I tried to re-home him but that isn't turning out so well. I think he will be the guest of honor at the BBQ this weekend...

Can't hear my rooster from our house. Barn is too far away. Thank goodness for that. Not a single person in our house is a morning person. I have a feeling he would wake me or my husband up and get shot. Wake the baby up and he'd be killed slowly. BUT. Not a problem as they're too far away from the house. My roo is pretty fantastic. I like him a lot. He's protective of his girls but has not tried to attack anyone. He just calls the girls out into the run away from us while we do our business. He's always having to herd this sex-link away from me. The sex-link has the right idea. She knows where the food comes from! To be honest, I'm just not the kind of person who would tolerate being attacked. I'll let it slide the first few times but if it's going to be a habit I'm going to eat the offender. Just how it is.

People post about how to "rehab" a rooster all the time. The surest rehab is a one way trip to the axe or whatever your method is. Do try to get one under control and if it fails, Do not keep his genetics going. Aggressiveness in roosters is inherited. It's not always very fun or easy to do the right thing.

We culled our rooster this weekend. I really liked him. Such a pretty boy, but his aggressive protection of the girls was really kicking in fast. I sat in the grass last Thursday and plopped a hen that was acting odd in my lap to check her out and he rushed me but stopped just out of reach. He knows not to mess with me, but was still protective. I had my wife watch the girls as I went to do some BYC research...I heard a distinct...No No NO NO...Honee! I guess our rooster thought he could take my wife! She got some good kicks in, but he wouldn't let up. That sealed his fate.

I agree, I had to get rid of my prize Barnevelder Roo because he started chasing down my 5 year old daughter. She could not go outside and play anymore, so he found a new home. However, I kept one of his sons, who was the calmest, and right now he is not what I would call aggressive but he does ruffle his feathers at me and gives me the stink eye. I am worried it will escalate if that happens he is gone also. Just not worth the stress at all. If it was just me, it might not be to bad, but kids come first . I have also worked with my daughter so she is calmer less erratic around them. Hoping that helps also. Good luck to everyone.
