The other day I noticed in my indoor growers pen that ones leg was slowly twisting around. I thought it was just splayed as the same bird had this problem when a few day old. It is now completely backwards facing, the bird couldn't walk, I culled it. Now I notice white scabs on the other 4s skin and the following morning another was dead. The remaining 3 have laboured breathing and have lost weight. I'm almost sure it's Mareks. I have a neighbouring indoor pen with adults so will they now have Mareks? They are shown no symptoms.
Will all my outdoor pens have it (none showing symptoms)
Can I sell birds? Can I buy birds?
If a bird becomes resistant will it still infect and kill other birds?
If I breed from Mareks resistant birds will the chicks have it?
What should I do ?

All input greatly appreciated
Thanks

There is no cure for Merak's. So, unless they are vaccinated, unfortunately all of your birds need to be culled if it is in fact Merak's. Have a necropsy done on the next bird that dies. It is VERY contagious so DO NOT SELL THEM. Also do not get any more! I am sorry that you have to deal with this.

Ok I will get the next bird tested. Can adults get it or is it only chicks and growers?
Thanks
