i'm not sure if what you're talking about is the same thing I'm thinking of, but I seen a scooper, with a handle, and these prongs that stick out you just scoop the plant, and the berries fall into the bucket.

I remember trying to talk my mom into buying one, when I was a kid. She said no, because the leaves and twigs also fall into the scoop, and it takes twice as long to clean the stuff out of the berries. My mother is Alaskan native, and she is very picky on how the things she preserved were done.

I see it says you found one, but I always seen them at Fred Meyers, or True Value...or ...trust worthy.

If it is the same thing you are talking about, let me know if it is as messy as my mom says. Since she told me that, I still always wanted to try it, but don't want to spend extra$$ on one if it isn't "Up to ma's standards" haha

yes it is the same thing and yes you do get leaves, twigs, and greenberries. But I got 7 and a half gallons in 1 hour. then I took a electric matress inflater and blew twigs leaves off top then put in water and bad ones float so I scooped them off no problem much faster than picking.

wow, 7 and 1/2? makes me wish mom would have thought of an inflator. what do you make with your berries?

ours get really seedy (alaska) if you wait too long to pick them. one year me and a friend (took a couple hours to get a couple gallons) and they were really seedy...the first batch of jam had almost crunchy spots, and the second batch had to be strained and turned into Jelly. It was good though.

I just know now to not wait when someone says blueberry hill is ready:rolleyes:

I love blue berries. Not sure what it translates to in gallons, but I usually pick about 10 lbs in an hr.... get's expensive since I have to go to U pick and buy them.

I've never even heard of a blueberry rake/scoop. Are they expensive? I just picked 22cups of blueberries on Monday. I froze mine in ziplock bagies, each having 2 measured cups inside, then I put those bags into freezer ziplock bags. -That way I can easily grab what I'd need for a recipe... muffins, zucchini-blueberry bread, pie, waffles or pancakes, etc.

I also do that with ripe bananas too. Nice to just thaw & add to a recipe.

Don't you get 'all' the berries off the bush? --meaning you have to sort the unripe berries from the bunch that you'd get coming off the tree with the rake/scoop?

I got a large rake (thats all they had 15 1/2 inch wide) it was 76 bucks so yes expensive but I will have it for years.yes you get all the berries and have to sort but you put in water and most the green and red ones float so you just scoop off top of water with a slotted spoon. I have a huge mountain full of wild ones nearbye so all are free. guess I ended up with atleast 40 lbs. also I talked to a guy that owns a pick your own place and he said they have never cleaned someones own berries but he would for a buck a pound. I think Ill keep cleaning my own.

I forgot to answer what I do with them. We ate a real lot fresh buy the bowl full and in cereal. I froze a bunch for baking muffins, pies and using in pancakes. If I had went out and got too many I could have sold them or made blueberry jam or canned pie filling. also I think next year I will try trading some for fresh produce from a local farm.
