My hen had cracked 2 eggs about a week or more ago (they had 8). They were only about 4 days along. One I threw out right away, but the other I just put a little tape on because it wasn't too bad. I was checking it almost every day, but I was busy yesterday, so I went out late this morning and there was an unbearable smell. I fished the egg out and it looked like it was ready to explode and seemed to have leaked a little bit. I see an egg or two with dried stuff on it. What do I do? How do I clean the eggs? I candled them and they all look the same. It is day 15. Am I still supposed to see movement still? The eggs are almost all the way filled with chick, except for the air cell and another small spot. What do I do? I did put some fresh bedding in the box before I put them back in with their hens. Please help!! I'm new to this and my heart would break if they all die because I had to give this one egg a chance. Thank you

i don't think you're supposed to wash eggs that you plan to hatch. if the eggs are really yucky maybe try cleaning them with a clean, wet rag but don't use any soap, etc. however you should definitely get a second opinion on this. good luck 4chickns.

Throw the bad egg away. I wouldn't put any water to wash off any of the good eggs, just leave them alone. You could clean out the shavings in the box and put the eggs back in. You might be able to see some movement in the eggs or shadows moving but it gets less the older they are.

Thank you. Of course I threw out the bad egg immediately and I did put fresh shavings in their box and I also cleaned the hen they were under. It appears only 2 eggs were soiled, and it was dried on, so I just gently scraped it off with my fingernail. I just hope it's okay to leave them in with the other eggs. Only a small amount had leaked out of the egg, so I really hope that means thay are alright. I really appreciate the help.
