Here's what I see....
first, the overall stance and build. This bird is tall and leggy. He's kind of gawky and unfinished looking, for lack of a better term. Pullets are smaller and rounded, softer looking at this age. He looks more like a teenage boy than a teenage girl.
Second, the coloring. Barred mixes don't follow the rules of pure barred birds, but the patchy coloring on the wings is a male thing. You see it on barred mixes and laced birds. Those white patches usually get larger as they bird matures.
He does look to be getting some saddle feathers coming in. I do think he's younger, though, more like 4 months.
