HELP I think i have a pandemic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought my 2 chickens had corzya, turnes out to be an abcess and with anitbotic's it is slow very slowly clearing up. Found a vet who knows a bit about chicks, not much, but he assured me ist ws not corzya.

theres no spell.....so coryza prob isnt the case so could i give them tylan and do you all think that would be a good course of action? and ive never had to medicate my birds so where can you get tylan

What type of antibiotic did they suggest that you start them on?

Sorry for what you are going through. It's heart breaking to deal with.

I truly think you need to have a necropsy done if there is no odor. The absence of the smell pretty much rules Coryza out and if it's MG... Well, it's just better to know so you can figure out which direction you need to go in.

I agree with gumpsgirl different antibotics treat different virals. If you are not treating with the right antibotic you could do more damage than good. If there is no smell and no legions in the mouth it probaly isnt coryza but there are various other respiratory diseases out there. A necropsy can detect the right course of action. I hope everything comes out ok. I have had to deal with coryza before and it was not nice. Best of luck

they suggested tylan 50.....and then they told me i should start the infected birds on that and no progress an necropsy is my last resort i dont want to cull my hen roo or the pullet!!! so im starting them on that tomarrow and an apple cider vinegar remidy (cant spell) and hope that works one of my really nice roos has a puffy eye trying not to like break down during this whole thing and i now have the affected birds in isolation and lesson learned cracking down on biosecruity!!!

also the ADDL poultry vet said that if no lesions and or oder could be nothing but idk so they said before i cull to try antibiotic

It's probably MG. There was an outbreak last year in Indiana/KY, and the State Vet rep that I talked to said that almost everyone has it, or will have it soon. It's everywhere, and spread by wild birds too. The question is if your birds will show signs, Some of mine did, but now they're all symptom free. If you have chickens, and they are anywhere near Outside, you've probably got it.

You do realize that your birds and their offspring will be carriers of this disease forever, right? MG transfers from the hen to the hatching egg and then onto the chick. In every state I know of, MG is a reportable disease by the state. This is a serious disease that is especially tragic for large scale chicken farmers, thus the reason for this disease being reportable. I'm shocked that your state vet wasn't more concerned than that.

ummmm the ADDL vet i talked to didnt mention that she mention coryza but no MG i told her the symptoms.......and not deaths and hasnt been as contagious as MG
