I got home today and my dad told me to go check the coop and chickens. All was fine until I found one of my Easter egger pullets sprawled out not moving in the coop under the nesting box shelves. I tried to give her water but her neck is so long and limp. It did reach 85 here today. Reason I’m so confused is she’s not panting and her body doest feel hot. She’s at home now I’ve tired to give her some electrolytes and nutri drench and was about to put her feet in cool water when I realized her feet were already cool. I’m confused and unsure of what to do? Her breathing sounds funny to if that related?

Can she move her legs and feet, or her wings? Could she have eaten something dead or poisonous, or could she have been injured (head or neck?) She looks like pictures I have seen of chickens with limberneck or botulism.
She’s starting to lift her head up on her own more but it quickly falls back down. She can stand a little but she keeps her knees bent and wings drooped out. I don’t think she could’ve eaten anything she was in the coop because the boys had the run for the day. We have hay in the coop and food and water was good but it was a bit warm

https://nt.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0010/233569/botulism-in-chickens-ducks-and-others.pdf

After reading the article it really does seem like that might be the issue. I’ll make sure to clean out my whole coop tomorrow and make sure there wasn’t rotting food or a dead mouse or something.

Would an antibiotic possibly help? I have liquid Duramycin and 250 mg metronidazole tablets on hand

If she can stand some, I doubt if it is botulism at this point. I would treat her for heat stress and dehydration. Water with electrolytes, making watery chicken feed and watery egg to offer. Let us know how she gets along.

Little update! She’s all good now still have her home just in case probably will bring her back to the coop tomorrow.
