HELP! I think my hen is dying, I don't know what to do!

This sounds EXCATLY like what happened to my chicken! I am almost sure they had the same thing! I dont know what it is or how to treat it. And it died in my sister's hands who was trying to treat it. Dang it we really need to find out what this is to prevent it happening again.

PipiOli,

Please pm me if you find out what this is because I am pretty sure this is exactly how my chicken died. And I never found out what it was or how to treat it if it happens again.

I am sorry for your loss. One thing to check and the first thing I check -- is their vents and underwings for lice. Lice and chickens go together and if not noticed can bring a chicken down quickly and sometimes slowly.

If you can rule that out then it is time to dig deeper so that it doesn't continue with any other chickens you have.

thanks everybody

I have dag out my hen Irenka and decided to send her for necropsy since UC Davis apparently does if for free.
She started breathing very hard and wheezing I accidentally touched her throat and she was made kind of chocking noise. Right before she died she started drooling, chocking, twitched and died.

i really want to know what happened to her.
If the rest of my chickens are healthy I will probably try to get rid of them to some nice homes. I cannot take it. It breaks my heart. My husband likes animals and he is 100% behind me but he doesn't get why I get so upset. He is more upset because I am upset.

If I decide to rehome them I will let you know if an of you are interested...

:-(

I'm not too far from Davis and would be interested in what the necropsy says. This has been a weird year in Northern California. Lots of rain into early summer and not too hot. I've dealt with respiratory issues in my flock as well.

I wouldn't think about rehoming until you figure out what it is... after all it could be something simple like lice or worms!

Hope you get it figured out and get to keep your healthy flock.
