Hi there we have some beautiful teen poults from our first hatch that have come from a rooster we now know probably wasn’t the Rhode Island Red the previous owner said he was. I’ve included pictures of their parents. Mama was said to also be a RIR but with a black tail? Doesn’t that make her a New Hamp Red? All babies came out different from only her brown eggs. No chance of any other egg sources, they had been separated with only those two left to mate. Some of the babies have black legs and feet. The big multicolored teen roo with the rose comb is the dark chick with the funny head, his female siblings are shown surrounding him. Remember they all come from the same parents. What’s with the long neck feathers and the hairdo? The silver, copper, lacing and big eyes? We are stumped. Every time we think we’ve nailed down some breed we find another that seems closer. Please help!

Are you asking for gender? The breed is a mix of whatever the parents are
Trying to figure out what sort of hybrid their dad was and confirm their mama’s breed. They don’t seem like RIR chicks right? Both parents were given to us as RIR despite the rooster being multi black & rose combed - babies are about to start laying. Curious what to expect.

Your rooster is likely a Polish mix. The hen is a RIR, hatchery quality, but RIR are supposed to have some feathers with black. Not sure the question, but the chicks feathering makes sense to me given the dad
Thank you! We suspected some Polish. Any bantam you think? Trying to figure out the big black eyes on the silver/copper hens.

I don't think you're going to be able to narrow his breed down further unless we know his possible parents 😕 His body type and size seems similar to a Polish, but I guess I wouldn't necessarily rule out some bantam in there, but I wouldn't necessarily assume either

I understand and thank you for trying to help us figure out their hybrid specifics anyways!

We are on the look out for potential crosses that look like that huge mostly black but very much multi (copper, white, iridescent green, silver & dark gray) colored w/dark red rose combed, gray/black footed, long Polish-like neck & tail feathered daddy. Is the rose comb a Polish trait?

We’ve been trying to narrow the potential crosses for daddy rooster for awhile now and seem to find lots of varying opinions about breed-specific traits in general. We also live near a lot of Czech hatcheries who seem to have birds that resemble ours (see attached from one of their sites) and likely where our baby bird’s parents came from originally.

At least we know their mama is a hatchery grade RIR which I presume is a good thing and why she was so pretty? Please let me know if that means something specific. Thanks again for all your help! We love them and want to be as best informed as we can be about them and their breed quirks/needs.
