Mystery chick. Thinking she is some kind of cross, but would like to get opinions. She's a bit nervous and flighty (hence the crapy pictures). Prefers to roost in a tree outside of the coop. Laid her first egg today, small and chocolate brown.

She is very, very pretty!

I don't see the Wyandotte at all, my first thought was a mixed breed. she may be some unusual color of Marans I'm not familiar with, though, or a project color. That's about the only breed I know that would lay a "chocolate brown" egg--do you have a picture of the egg, by chance?

My thought is to maybe edit your title to say chocolate egg layer--that should draw the attention of the Marans folks who might not otherwise check the thread. And everyone wants to see a pic of the pretty eggs!

You say chocolate brown.. milk chocolate?

Maybe she is a Blue Copper Marans with the wrong leg colour... Or has Marans in her somewhere.

Taking a second look at the egg, I guess its more of a milk chocolate color. It is definitely darker than my RIR eggs, but probably not dark enough to be considered chocolate. I snapped a picture, but can’t upload it right now, I’ll post in the morning.
