Hi! I was given these two chicks hatched by someone else. The eggs came from a friend of a friend of a friend in another state, or else I would ask them what breeds these might be. I know they are probably barnyard mixes and there is no way to know for sure, but these guys look so different from all of my other chicks especially the black one. The black one has black feet and a black beak. Any idea what the breeds might be of these two? They are only about three weeks old. I also posted a picture of each when they were younger. TIA

The black one makes me think of a sumatra--they have black feet, beaks, comb, etc. Not saying it IS one, just that it makes me think of one.

Silkies are known for having black skin/feet/beak/etc too, but I'm pretty sure it's not a silkie cross. (It does not have extra toes, does not have feathered legs, and I don't think it has a crest either. A silkie cross would have most or all of those features.)

Yes, my first thought was a silkie cross but I didn’t think so either because of all of the reasons mentioned. I will look at a Sumatra. I couldn’t think of any other black beak/legs breeds. It’s just interesting to me to know what they are mixed with. I hatched some from a neighbor’s eggs, but I know what type she has and it’s interesting to see the results. Thanks!

Black Copper Marans, Black Jersey Giants and Midnight Majesty Marans all have black feet, feathers and beaks. Midnight Majesty Marans Roosters will be barred when their feathers come in, females remain black. My avatar is a Midnight Majesty Marans Rooster. They are a cross between Black Copper and Cuckoo Marans.

I just got a midnight majesty Maran this spring it was supposed to be a pull it but turned out to be a rooster judging from its barred feathers. I’m hoping I can find a good home because I can’t have roosters. Most people don’t seem to know what they are. Thanks for the information on the breeds with the black beaks and feet. I didn’t realize that Moran’s have black feet and beaks I guess. I’ve never had one before
