Help identifying gender

she's been breeding and selling for over 20 years!
Then she is a straight up LIAR! :smack NOBODY has bred for that long and can't identify cockerels and pullets by that age. She took advantage of you and who knows how many more? Start flagging her ads, spread the word...

Lice happens... but THIS is just wrong. I'm sorry you have had such a hard time getting started into a truly wonderful adventure.

Heck... make sure you post her contact info here... so no-one else will consider looking at her birds!

I would have her arse up in the shaft... just to prove a point about taking advantage of people. Yes, I have some better things to do with my time... but I am very MUCH a principals person... and YES there IS legal recourse if you are willing to take the time. Sure, mistakes can happen... this wasn't one of them. :hmm

If I found her on FB... I would make an account JUST to get the word out. If by CL, watch me flag every ad she placed and maybe place some warnings of my own. BAIT AND SWITCH is illegal... I MIGHT even spend the funds to take that SCAMMER to small claims.

In truth... I would count it a CHEAP lesson... and probably forget about most of it. :he Then watch me never make the same mistake again. And go in KNOWING what questions to ask and what features to look for on ALL of my future adventures.

I once paid $20 each for straight run "Swedish Flower" chicks and drove 45 minutes each way in my Suburban when our gas hovers around $4/gal. They ALL ended up being barnyard mix. NOW I KNOW what SF look like and I also know what questions to ask. It was an early lesson that has far surpassed it's value. :)

Thanks for the comments everyone. She did text me and say that they are definitely hens, they just started laying and will lay sporadically for the next month. But she said she would send me a refund...I guess I'll have to wait and see! If not my husband said he would show up on her doorstep.

Good for your husband! This was such a blatant lie! To prey on someone who is new to chickens, well, there is no excuse. And to charge you $60 on top of it! I'm seeing red!

I ended up with a pullet and a cockerel, when the lady had ADVERTISED pullets. Admittedly, I didn't look that close, since I assumed it was a pullet. Couple weeks later and there was no doubt. I had to message her many times before she finally responded. At first, she would not take the bird back (I wasn't even asking for my money back!) Said all her remaining pullets had died because of the weather change. When I kept bugging her relentlessly, she finally said she'd meet me and take him back. I was going to drop it, but decided to keep after her. It works! They get so sick of your messages that they finally respond out of exasperation. It DOES work! I didn't want him dying too, so I re-homed him. I wanted to spread the word about her, but I no longer had her address or contact info--just her FB Messenger. When I see another ad on Craigslist, I will DEFINITELY flag it! So far, she hasn't advertised since this incident.
