Last year, we were given some pheasant chicks from a friend, but unfortunately he did not know what breed each bird was. We've identified the male birds (obviously

) but we still aren't 100% what the hens are. If anyone could offer any insight as to what specific kind of hen each bird is, it would be very appreciated. We have them paired off based on what we think they are (amhersts and red goldens) but want to be sure before we incubate any eggs. We don't want any mixed breed birds.

Click to enlarge the pictures (warning for slow internet, they are pretty big)

If you guys need more pictures from different angles or anything to be sure, it's no problem for me to go take more.

Thanks in advance!

#1 has the body plumage of a red golden, but the legs are grey like an Amherst.
#2 looks like Amherst plumage and golden legs.
#3 appears to be Amherst.

So, my money is on two hybrids and one ? pure Amherst.

dark brown ,blue legged hens are amherst, yellowish leg and light brown are red golds unless crossed

1 , 4, 5 amherst
others are reds, 100% on this unless they are possible mixes in there

It's possible that these birds are mixed, since we got them from someone else and didn't raise them ourselves. Is there any way to know for sure? I can take more pictures if it will help. I'm worried our Amherst roosters aren't pure now, too. I will try to get pictures of them up soon, but they aren't fully colored out yet so I'm guessing it will be hard to tell.

post some pics, if they are getting any color at all, it can be seen if they are pure or not.
The only one I see that may be questionable is the first one, kind of red for an amherst, they others are all pure appears to be.
Look at the color of 4-5 them compare to #1, you'll see what I mean, they are all amherts, face, feet pattern all say that, but the feathers seem off color to me, may have just been the lighting or pic though.
Another is the belly feathers under her legs seem reddish, now look at the amherst at the bottom, whitish down there, that is correct for them too. I think she's good though, after closer looking, but she would be my only concern out of all of them
But, #1 does have the blue legs, eye mask, and beak like they are supposed to have, the red golds as you can see in the other pics are all yellow in those areas

I tried to get some pictures of the questionable hen with better lighting. She is darker/more red colored than the other Amherst hen, but the lighting in her pen is bad and can be a little misleading.

She really likes her roost and won't stay on the ground when people are around, so that doesn't help much either. Hard to get her in good light.

Here's two pictures of the first rooster:

And two of the other one:

Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it.

Those are all good, great looking young amherst males, that one hen?? Being that all the others look right, she probably wasnt crossed or some of your others would show signs, so you are in good shape I think
