My beloved Hen got bit this morning on the back of her head by a poodle we didnt see it but we heard it as soon as it happend I put antibacterial on her she didnt excessively bleed. However by this evening she is still very unalert and sleeps alot she just looks BLAH. I would take her to the vet but we have no $$ Not even to put her down:( If she is not better by tomarow my father will shoot her. I have raised her from an egg and she is so friendly and sweet I couldnt bear it! She has drank water and eaten. Right now she is inside the house sleeping because it is so hott. I could use any help , I wish I could take her to a vet

She is in shock it sounds like. Keep her in a quiet location with food and water near. Only time will tell, but chickens are very resilient creatures. I'm sorry, I hope she will be okay.

She is probably just in shock. Keep her comfortable and she will most likely be OK.

Explain this to your father or ask him to read this.

Thats exactly what I have been doing, but my dad is very persistent on not letting her suffer he is even having me dig her grave tonight in case...

-but thankyou

She is most likely in shock.

Did you clean the wounds?

She needs more than one day to recover.

Tell your Dad it is very important she be given a few days to try and heal and recover.

Add some apple cider vinegar to her water. Keep her in a darkened room and quiet. Offer her something a little extra to eat - like a cooked egg or some meat scraps.

Okay, first off, how much has she bled? Is the wound open? Does it appear to be infected?

Those are some questions I will need you to answer. You must tell your father that he cannot expect her to get better in one night. There will be a long healing process. She will need to be put in a recovery pen by herself, so you don't risk the chance of the other chickens picking on her head.

I have had chickens bleed out basically half the blood in their body, but you know, with some tlc and some monitoring, they heal in no time and are back to normal.

Like everyone has been telling you, she is in shock.
As long as she is eating and drinking she will be fine.
Just let your father know that it will take more than one night for her to recover, but she will recover.
