Today's calendar says I need to remove the red plug (which I did) but it also says to put in a wet washcloth. Do I put it over the eggs? away from the eggs? Help, I don't want to do the wrong thing.

Thanks in advance!

I'm assuming it's day 18 and they want to increase the humidity. I'd just put it off to the side and not have it touch any eggs.

Don't let it touch the eggs or they'll suck up the moisture and kill the chicks. Put it somewhere away from the eggs. If you can put it under the mesh that would be best but if there's too many water troughs and no room or you don't want to move all the eggs then set it in an empty corner or along the edge. Preferably use warm water on the washcloth not cold. I don't know if the incubator has a hygrometer but after awhile you may see a bit of moisture along the edges of the windows. That's good and you have about the correct humidity for them to hatch. If the whole window gets covered in water and/or it starts to make large drops and drip off then that's potentially bad. You want enough moisture they don't dry out and stick to the shell while hatching but not so much it starts to collect in the egg. If it gets really bad you can remove the other vent plug to drop the humidity so the chicks don't drown.
