I'm glad your chick is doing better. Yes, it would be a good idea to give your chicks some grit. If you have a gravel driveway, you can scoop some gravel up from there. Offer varying sized particles, and they will pick out what they need. If your lawn is untreated, you can also give them a plug of sod to play with. Place it upside down in their brooder, and they will have a blast with it: Dust bathing, playing King of the sod clump, greens and soil to eat, and insects and perhaps some worms, and depending on your soil texture, they may even get their grit from the soil. They will also benefit from minerals, beneficial bacteria and fungi to kick start their digestive flora and immunity. I never start chicks without having some Poultry Nutri Drench handy. IMO, if a chick is failing to thrive, PND, along with some timely sugar water/electrolytes just might save the day.
