ok so i got my homemade incubator set up its just a shoebox with a lightbulb hanging from the ceiling and warming the egg from above also there is dish towels around the egg. anyway the egg doesnt seem very warm and im wondering if a 75 watt bulb is enough for a goose egg can someone help?

I'm far from the expert on the board regarding goose eggs, but I do have geese, have hatching experience and pretty much everything you are telling me is opposite of my personal experience.

I have Dewlap Toulouse and Sebastopol geese and I'm LUCKY if I get an egg every other day from each of my girls. So, the concept of a single goose giving you two eggs a day blows my mind.

If you know what breed of goose you have and can post photos, maybe someone here can confirm that you actually have two males based on more scientific information for you. That would be your best starting move.

If you search the topics here relating to goose eggs, you will see that incubators are insultaed and hold consistent temperature and humidity as both are critical for successful hatching. A shoe box with a 75 watt bulb is only going to give you some warmth, but will permit fluctuation according to room conditions and you have no way of monitoriing temp and RH.

I would search the many, many threads here on hatching goose eggs. Miss Prissy has given out very detailed information in the past, just to mention one....

thats very weird you said that i do have dewlap Toulouse unfortunately i cant take pics cuz they bite me and chase me..

Again, I'm in a different world from you...my dewlaps are like big dogs! They are mellow, laid back...I have 14 of them and just adore their personalities. Even when I've gotten adults, I could pull up a chair with a coffee can of food and they would nervously surround me, but never aggressively.

Oh, well. If these are dewlaps giving you two eggs per day, then you are awfully lucky. I know one of my friends with dewlaps is experiencing some fertility problems for the first time in years. I just started getting eggs, so I can't tell you if mine are fertile or not, but I sure don't get two eggs per day, or even one per day.

Well unfortunately a Shoe box and a light bulb probably won't work. you need the egg in a closed container with air holes, that way you can hold humidity and heat yet get air circulation, also you will need a constnant temp, I'm not sure of the exact temp for a goose egg, but I'm guessing somewhere around 100 degrees. If your temp fluxuates a lot or is too high or too low your egg will not develope. If you don't have the right humidity you will have problems too, and there is no way to hold humidity in an open shoe box. I hear Ice chests work well. You will definately need a Thermometer/Hydrometer.

but i know mine are dewlaps cuz thats what the breeder said when i got em but i guess ill keep tryin till one hatches but u can candle em and tell if there fertile or not

The only way I know of to check fertility through candling is to incubate for a week or two, then check for veining/development. I don't believe there is any way to check fertility before incubating through candling.

I have had geese and never heard of one laying 2 a day. Mine were the same as the other poster mentioned lucky to lay every other day. I have a feeling you have 2 girls.

but that would be impossible cuz my grandma hatched one of there eggs before they were fertile

Well I don't know then maybe you could let the goose sit on some eggs and see if they hatch.
