Earlier this week our lady amherst pheasant hatched a clutch of eggs by herself. When she originally started brooding I wasn't really sure if I should take her out to move her or if this would cause her to abandon the eggs. The day I was going to move her the eggs hatched and 3 chicks were killed by our peacocks leaving one baby. I gathered her and her baby and moved them inside to a crate for a day. I then moved both of them to a larger enclosure in which she tried to tear my arm off. I got her settled in and she is a very dotting mother protecting her little baby and telling me how she takes great offense when I put my hand in her enclosure. She has gotten used to me, for the most part, reaching in to refill her food and water but nothing else. My big question is would I be able to give her "replacement" babies? I have a few other pheasant babies I hatched myself the oldest no older than 2 weeks. I had one hatch today and two in the process of hatching. I was thinking of trying to put them under her when it is dark but I'm not sure if she will accept the baby or freak even at night if I attempt this. I am also afraid she may kill them and since I have hatched so few I'm not sure if it is worth it... I don't want the baby to be all by its lonesome and would like to add 2 more. Has anyone ever had this situation? I have never met someone who had a pheasant go broody let alone hatch babies..... Help would be greatly appreiciated!! Also forgot to mention she has had the baby for about 4 days now.
Thought I would add a picture or two for the heck of it! Baby was hiding under mama sadly so no picture of him.
