HELP in deciding on a duck breed....SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM

This is so great ! Good luck on deciding which breed to get ! Each one has a different personality. Calling are cute , little but NOISY. Rouens are good layers ,Indian Runners, not much meat but their eggs are wonderful, and they lay many up to 200 /year. Pekins are sociable the most versatile ducks..... used for meat and eggs. The Saxonys & Cayugas are gorgeous as per the pictures . I now have Muskovies - first time owner. Flipper,Flier, & Darkwing. Just 9 weeks old. Got them at one day. I NEVER eat anything I name so I am hoping that Flier & Darkwing do not mind sharing their eggs. If anyone has had experience with Muskovies - I will be grateful for ANY info. I am so glad I found this site

My Rouen mama is my favorite, she is a great layer, very friendly and a GREAT mom! Ohh and she cannot fly!

Oh dear...this is getting tough, oh wait it always was. Why do ducks have to be so cute and lovable and yummy and beautiful.....? If all breeds were ugly//mean and only one was nice that would make things easier. Not that I really want it that way.

Actually, every duck has its own special characteristics. You need to look at what you want in a duck and then narrow down your options.. We live near neighbors , hence no noisy ducks for us Plus we have 3 acres of woods that our Banties LOVE to forage in . .... We needed good foragers. I had heard that Muskovies had a sense of humor ...and were smart. Plus since they are not derived from Mallards and they roost - another plus because they can be in a coop that has a high door.Weasel proof. We have pretty much predator proofed out chickens and ducks. FINALLY! I really am liking our Muskovies after having a few different breeds . Loved Rhianna ( Indian Runner ) But MAN OH MAN was she noisy!! After Violet was killed she never shut up. So, check through the qualities of ducks and choose what you need. Then spoil the heck out of them like I do and they will be happy Good luck !!!
