HELP! incubatING JAPANESE QUAILS

Guess what! So I'm at work experience and my mom just text me saying two or three have "chipped" !!! The water has gone down since I last topped it so shall I open the Lid and refill the water or is that too risky?

Opening up the lid is always risky business when there is "pipping". If you have to do to humidity reasons, you need to do things very fast, in and out and be done. Get a spray bottle handy and when you go in to add water, mist everything down with warm water really well and quickly shut the lid. When they are pipping they are very susceptible to drying out and sticking to the shell with any drops in humidity.

But congrats on the pipping! Yay!

Temps must be a little lower then you think they are. I'd bump it up about .5C on the next hatch. Maybe as much as .75C. Again I'm in Fahrenheit to double check my conversions.

I usually get hatches around day 16 with my wacky bator. It is restat instead of thermostat. But I'm planning on switching it over to a digital thermostat for my next hatch. The digital controllers work quite well and are fairly cheap on ebay.

Yeah kingmt will maybe raise around 0.75 with the next hatch. Twocrows I have comeback and refilled the water in less that 10 seconds. So far three have pipped and 1 is staring to poke out and trying to break the thin layers shell. Will keep posted

Without pictures it didn't happen. :p
Are you talking about this...

Yeah. I'm just not as dramatic. Lol

Or maybe it is just that I don't have the image button in mobile version & don't know the short cut keys.

So far 4 have hatched!!!!!! But the first two that person pipped haven't yet made any more progress so am slightly worried them. . . And I will upload a few pics very soon once I get the hang of this mobile version, usually being on the computer but don't worry people I'll keep posted. . . With pics soon!

Once they pip, they can sit pipped for 24+ hours. So not to worry yet! They are busy right now detaching from the inside of the shell and absorbing the last of the egg yolk. So don't think you need to bust them out.

Just wait a day or so and keep the humidity up, vents open and you should have hatched babies soon!! :)
