We are hatching Silkie eggs. We have one hatched chick and five unhatched eggs, it's day 21. An hour ago we took the chick out and put him in the brooder because he was pecking at the other eggs. Now our Little Giant incubator is at 79 degrees and falling and the humidity is 82%. What do I do?

Either the incubator isn’t shut, or you bumped the control. If the incubator suddenly broke, wrap it in towels, leaving the incubator vents uncovered. Chicks kicking and pecking at other shells isn’t a problem.

Good to know, this is my first time hatching chicks. I'm thinking that water got into the heating element when I opened the lid. The temperature is still set at 99.6. I unplugged the incubator and plugged it back in and that didn't help. It says the heater is on but the temperature is still falling. Now its 77.3 degrees. I wrapped the incubator in towels. Any other advice?

I'm thinking of putting bags of heated rice into the incubator but I don't know if that's a good idea or not.

Temp is back to 99.6 and humidity is 59 and rising. For the benefit of others I will post what we did. We unplugged and opened up the incubator and put the eggs in a box nestled in towel with the heated bags of rice. Then we wiped off the heating and temperature elements. I was going to remove water but there wasn't much there. Then I put the eggs with the heated bags of rice into the incubator, closed it up and turned it back on. Within about ten minutes the temp and humidity were back in hatching range. three of the eggs have pipped and in one of them I can see the chick moving. I hope they will all be ok.

Is the display reading that temp, or do you have another thermometer in there?
