Help!!! Indian Runner With Overlapping Feet!

My ducks' feet do that, especially at that age. Some of my Runners still seem to have feet that want to be on top of each other. they seem to get along fine, swim well and lay like mad!

My runners were constantly standing on their own feet for a long time. They don't now, or if they do, it doesn't bother them a bit.

I keep coming back to this thread because I love the picture of Rosie in her duck diaper. I have runners too, and I think a female buddy is probably better for her, a male might chase her around and try to mate with her more than she wants when they grow up.

Shes Beautiful...you would trip over your feet too if you had big flappers like that

One of my runners actually trips over her feet sometimes! It's nowhere near as bad as the call duck I mentioned though.

Well, if you don't want ducklings, I would say get another girl. You'll get double the number of eggs to eat and won't have to worry about a male over-mating with your female or even attempting to mate with the chickens! As long as you can cope with the noise of two girls, that's what I'd do. If you decide you do want to breed in the future you could always get a male then

Mine are in a kind of barn-like thing. It's hard to describe, it's like a large shed but with proper walls, roof, concrete floor, electric etc. The boys and girls both have their own normal wooden duck houses within this room, but since the room is secure in itself we have left the roofs off of the duck houses to make cleaning out easier. I think as long as you have adequate fencing for the run and a secure house for them to go into at night you should be okay

Because of the more upright stance of an Idian Runner in comparison to other breeds - a small hip issue can look alot worse than if it was in a normal duck. Slightly turned in feet is not a major cause for concern in most cases though. If there is noticeable difference between the two hips - it would indicate there is some form of hip deformity. I have had a few runners hatch with hip issues due to being malpositioned in the egg. Your duck looks very much more normal - it may be that at time the fact that you have a diaper on her- she is more prone to turning in one leg.

Well she's certainly a cutie! I love seeing ducks in diapers because I want to try keeping a duck in the house temporarily. Theyl ook so silly in those, but adorable too.

All six of my runners do this... they also have this dumb tendency to want to start walking with the foot underneath, thus tripping themselves... it's fine and even normal.. they are just a silly duck breed. No worries!

Her feet and legs look OK to me. She's just at a gawky age.

Brewers yeast has niacin and you can buy niacin in any pharmacy.

Spinach has something in it called oxalates. A better choice, even than lettuce is kale. kale is high in calcium low in oxalates and is a very good green. Recent studies show that brewers yeast is the best way for niacin absorbtion for birds as just giving niacin supplements causes the liver to store the excess niacin in the liver. using brewers yeast doesn't have the same effect.
