My very curious 3 year old son made his way inside of our small chicken coop where we keep the babies. He got one of our Rhode Island Reds, who is only 4 days old, and began carrying by its leg. He didn't have it very long, as my husband came running when he heard the chick in distress. But the bend of its leg is red and swollen and it walks with a limp. I don't think that it's broken cause it can put some pressure on it. Would it be best to take it away from the other chicks and put it in a small area where it won't have to walk as far to get to food and water, or just leave it with its sisters?

Minimizing stress is probably really important; it might be more stressful for it to be separated from the others. Very generally speaking, if an animal can bear weight on a limb, it usually is not broken, at least not seriously and most baby animals have very soft bones, more prone to bending/splintering than breaking.

Thank you.. and we have

She seems to be doing much, much better today. She has a little limp still, but she is eating and drinking well. And the other chicks are playing nice.
