I have a 5 week old Rhode Island Red that was pounced by my retriever yesterday. She won't open one eye and the other eye is filled w blood (not bleeding externally, the eyeball is actually blood filled). I have her in a basket, heating pad, food and water. I'm suspecting she is basically blind, and hasn't been eating or drinking on her own. Just tonight I was able to syringe feed her some water and drop some food in her mouth. This is my very first chick, or bird for that matter, experience so im wondering if I'm doing the right things? Anything else I can do for her? Will she survive if permanently blinded? Any advice is much appreciated...my kids are in tears

That is so terrible! Poor thing! I know this sounds awful, but I would put her out of her misery if she's not eating and drinking. I'm thinking she must be in horrible agony.

I was prepared for that, but other than her vision impairment she seems fine. So it makes the decision difficul . I'm gonna see if I can get some Nutrical today and do what I can. I don't want to give up on her just yet. Wings crossed her vision comes back!
