My family has recently invested in bantam chickens.

We trusted our dogs around them, but this morning they were found tearing into one of our chickens.

The neck wound is quite large, and quite open. You can see in to her neck, the wound is around the side/front of the neck.

We've put some hydragen peroxide over the wound to help keep clean and heal.

What else can we do to keep the wound clean and help it to heal? What are the chances she'll survive?

She is blinking, breathing, she can move her legs and her neck. At the moment I've put her in a cardboard box with a tea towel, and positioned her neck so that the wound is not splaying out and open.

I've read a similar case where the chicken has survived, so I hope that she will too.

Thank you for reading!

I actually just joined this site because of a similar problem. We received 3 young ducks of different species yesterday and they were attacked last night by what appeared to be a nutria. Two didn't make it and the third seemed to get away being smaller and faster. The survivor seemed to be fine an unscathed but we put him in a large open Rubbermaid storage bin with a towel some food and water until we can get rid of the nutria. About 35minutes ago I went to gently wipe some cracked corn from his neck that I figured was just sticking there from some water... And realized it was coming from inside his neck. He seems completely fine eatting, drinking, preening, stretching, ect but there is a hole, and I'm sure he isn't getting any nutrition with it open like that. There is no blood, he has been on a white towel and there is none to be found. Tried cleaning with warm water and Epsom salts, trying to decide if neosporin will be a good idea in such an open wound..Everywhere around here is closed as far as vets, wildlife rehabs, ect. The one I got a hold of said there was nothing she could do, and that most places would just put him down. Sorry to hijack your thread, just looking for the same answers... Good luck
