Waddles was acting a little down today (not her usual outgoing self). She was sitting on the side of the pond and drooping her left wing. Other than the drooping and being a little off, she seems fine (eating, pooping, quacking...usual duck stuff).

We checked her out tonight and she has a lump on the top of her wing. It feels hard, probably about the size of a quarter. It does feel hot to the touch, I think.

Any suggestions on what might have happened or what we should do for conservative measures? How do you tell if a duck has a broken wing? If it were an abscess, wouldn't it be soft, jelly-like?

HELP!

Thanks!

I tried dribbling peroxide this morning. No apparent bubbling. I just posted some pics above.

It feels warm to the touch. It's so hard to tell if the lump is soft or hard, as it is located right on the big, joining bone of her wing (I'm obviously ignorant about terminology here, so I hope you can understand what I'm meaning).

There's no puss or blood, but it's very red. When I feel the underside of her wing, I can also feel the lump there. It feels much softer on the underside (even squishy). I don't know if this is just because I'm feeling the hardness of her bone when I touch the top side?

Any help is so appreciated. So far I have tried peroxide, warm soaks with salt, and rubbed some drawing salve on it (we treated bumble foot a year ago and I'm at a loss what else to do for her until I hear more response.

I'd love to take her to a vet, but the closest one who will touch birds is 3 hours away. I want to try conservative measures first.

Thanks!

Rhonda
