I am a first-time chicken-owner, and in my tiny flock I have a few possible roos! My favorite EE (8 weeks old) has a tiny red comb, and I'm pretty sure she is a he ... his comb is redder than it shows in the close-up, and he's very dominant, in-your-face to the other chicks, even those older/bigger than he... Any thoughts? My DS wants to be sure before we give him away, since we're not supposed to have roosters in my town

Thanks!

Wait till he crows!

If he doesn't crow, then nobody will know you have a roo!

Plus, don't-cha-know the rule of thumb? If it's your favorite, then it's gotta be a roo!

EE's are generally hard to sex. That is a pretty big comb for just being 8 weeks old. I don't think my 14 week olds have that big of a comb. I am undecided. It could be both, so I'd hang on to your favorite chicken a while longer!

Thanks Deanne, babyspice, Heather & Jackie!

I am sure hoping 'she' is a pullet! BUT, the way she holds her tail made me wonder ... here are some new pics of that durn tail, I hope they're clear enough?

Hey Neighbor!!!

I'm sorry to say it, but I'm putting all my money on roo!

Remember when you came by the house and saw our one roo... well, he looked exactly like that (tail, comb, etc.)

I hope I'm wrong, but I'd start crafting that "Roo Looking For Good Home" craigslist ad right now.
