Help! is this a cockerel or pullet?

Wow my black australorp standard/ buff rock bantam (for sure that breed, because those were the only chickens I had at the time) looks just like that!

I also say girl- but I am curious about the color related comments. I have some EE chicks- is it just this color that you can assume to be a girl? What about it specifically? What about the speckled tan, brown, and red shades?

Male EEs are almost always white bodied, with red shoulders, and other colors, not the "partridge" look of those particularly colored females.

Carl, my dominant rooster when he was a baby chicken and I thought he was a pullet.

Without a doubt a girl. Mine looks the same... she even got some feathers on her tail that made me wonder, but that's a girl for sure. Could be a twin for mine. She's a sweetie, too.

Thanks for the color explanation! I have 3 EE chicks, almost three weeks old- two chicks with the partridge color coming in, and one that is a soft gray color. I find this color prediction very reassuring!
