We are new to keeping chickens. We have 3 chickens at 23 weeks old (SLW, RIR and BO). SLW and RIR started laying at 21 weeks old. Only the BO hasn’t started laying yet. All of them have free choice feed of crushed oyster shell. This late morning we found this on the floor. Wasn’t sure who did this. The RIR and the SLW both laid perfectly normal eggs earlier this morning. Can anyone help us identify what is this? Look like intestine membrane with yellow stuff yolk like inside. It came out long with the poop.

UPDATE: we found another one. Smaller but membrane sac like with yellow stuff in it as the first one 3 hours later. This one also came out with a poop. The chickens seem to be fine, running around, dust bathing and eating. Any help is really appreciated. Thanks.

Looks like a soft shell membrane.
You mention they have free choice feed of oyster shell - what type of feed do you provide?
Likely this is a glitch from a new layer, sometimes there can be odd eggs. If the other 2 laid a normal egg this morning, then likely it came from the BO. Watch her for a couple of days and see how it goes. If she continues to pass the membrane, then I would give her 1/2 tablet of Caltrate for 3 days to see if it improves.

Thank you. We will keep monitoring her. We feed them Scratch and Peck Layer feed. We also give them separate bowl of crushed oyster shell for them. We also give them treat mealworms and fruit from time to time.

Keep us posted on how she's doing. Is she getting along with the RIR and GLW?
BO's are very sweet, they are a favorite of mine too :)

Yes I will. So far nothing weird in the past two days. She didn’t show any sign of being sick at all. The three of them hang out together all the times. The BO seem to be on top of the pecking order too.

Aren't they sweet!
Glad she's feeling fine, I would chalk that up to new layer glitch unless it continues!
Thanks for the update and photo:)
