Yeah, we try to stay local too. There are probably some local BYC folk right near you. Look for a thread for your state. You might be able to get some older (for sure) pullets.

Also, I was thinking the guy may have been trying to breed his own sex links from sex links, which you can't do because they're not a breed but a hybrid. Then when he picked out the darker color chicks thinking they were the pullets, you got the 2nd generation cockerels instead.

May not have been intentionally selling you the wrong thing, he may not have known. Have you tried contacting him about your roosters? The whole point in buying sex links is knowing the sex from day one!

I'd like to personally thank everyone who's posted to this thread, which has been enormously helpful to me! I feel more confident that my Nellie is a Nellie and not a Ned...lol...very important because where I live, I'm not allowed to have chickens at all, let alone roosters! To me, this "boy or girl" issue is the only negative about having chickens. We bought five chicks originally and already had to give one away because "she" turned out to be a "he." Don't want to lose another one--and certainly don't want to lose them all--they are my babies!!
