Hello, I think 2 of my 5 chickens have bumblefoot. They are all just under 1 year old and are all Pekin Bantams. They are still laying, eating and drinking normally and are not limping. Happy to take them to the vets but if anyone has any advice on how to treat this in its early stages at home then all information would be welcome. Also, if there are ways to prevent it in the future then please post how.

Thanks in advance :)

It seems like some birds are maybe more prone to bumblefoot. Some believe that jumping from roosts, scratching in hard or rocky soil may be a problem. I have free range birds that roost in rafters 10ft+ up, scratch in gravel, briars, etc. and have had no issues. I also have birds that live on soft soil/bedding and have no issues. The only instances I've had problems with feet is if there was an injury - a poke from wire, a cut, etc. So...
I really couldn't tell you how to prevent it - it seems to be fairly random for me.

Okay thank you for the information. I shall have a good look around their run to make sure that there isn’t anything slightly dangerous like a piece of splinter on some wood. I’m thinking about replacing the perches anyway because they are quite old. I believe that, that might have been the cause of it.
Thanks again for your help
