HELP!!!! Ive got a serious chicken problem!

bump is to get it back to the top.

a large dog crate works well for seperation in a pinch, alot of us have an extra small pen or cage of some sort for this stuff. I got a few large dog ctartes on craigs list very cheap and made 1/2 foot wood sides to keep litter in. Most of us did NOT think to get them until we needed them or make use of an older smaller coop we "grew" out of.

I agree with the pulling out of a nice hen or 2 for her to be with that is better than my original suggestion. its also good to pull out the mean one and give it a time out in a crate when she is returned to give her a better chance of fitting in.

Good luck

Do you have plenty of room for all the chickens? If they are a little crowded, it could exacerbate pecking order issues. Could you chicken wire off a portion of the coop for her to hang out in until she heals? Then reintroduction might go better. Also, like others said, make sure they have plenty of protein.

You don't need anything fancy or big to separate out a chicken or two. I have a broody box that I made out of scrap wood and some chicken wire. It is only about 2 feet long by 1 foot wide. It can also be used if I have a hen who wants to set. Easy to make, cheap, and small enough to be moved around easily.

I have a large parrot cage that we use as a hospital cage. My coop and run are also each divided in half. Sometimes if a hen doesn't do well in one group, I move her to the other side. There is also the basement of my house if push comes to shove.

This weekend we are going to put together some kind of hutch deal like u buy at tsc or big R for 200.00!!! We can build one so much cheaper, we are going to place it under the metal awning in the outside enclosed run.
But yes they have enough room and like i said they are 19 months old. The hen that i always seen picking on her is pretty agressive. She bites the crap outta me all the time. Im wondering can i just take her out, maybe even for good and that would solve the problem? Or would another hen just step up and take her place?

I currently have one hen in a large dog crate in my breakfast room and another in my downstairs bathroom (with a tarp and towels laid down). These are my 'recuperating' areas. I had no idea how often I'd have to have the chickens inside to heal!

I agree with the above along with findnig the ring leader and disturbing her place in the pecking order. I tend to re-indroduce while free ranging.....the benift for me is that they have room to work back into the flock along with room to get away if needed. AT sundown they will either go back to the main flock coop or return to the pen they have been in during the isolation.

I'd take your aggresive hen out for a few days. Another hen will assume the dominate spot, but most aren't that aggressive so it should still be better. Good luck!
