Help! I've lost 2 ducklings in 2 days

I read that starter feed should be fed all the way through the 5 week mark, which which point switch to grower...

Water --- We have found some water "discs" tat are safe for all animals. They are about 3 or so inches in diameter and dissolve in standing water. Although you said you have not found any standing water around your home, you could check out your neighbors areas.... The discs are safe for ALL wildlife, but prevent mosquito eggs from hatching. My dogs love to soak themselves in the ditches around my home, and we feel very comfortable using the discs to treat the mosquito's knowing that our doggies will be safe.

Okay, so the University said tetracyclines would work and that I should consult the feed store. My local feed store had Oxytetracycline HCL in a soluble powder, but they only have directions for chickens & turkey and the staff at the feed store had no clue about ducks. I did get a phone number for a local person that breeds and shows ducks, but I can't reach them either. Anyone ever use this? If so, what is the proper dosage? I am getting frustrated with only having half the solution. Any help is appreciated!

Let me know any dosing information you find out? I'll start some research online to see if I can come
up with a dosing for ducks.

Thanks for sharing!!!

We stopped feeding our ducklings starter/grower after 3 weeks because our earlier batch this year developed angel wing due to the high protien content. Once we started feeding them grower/finisher it healed on its own. I hope their organs are properly developed

Anyways, we're using Dumor feed and we noticed the chart on the back of the bag is wrong; it tells you to feed the starter/grower for too long. Also if you buy Dumor in the 50lb bag its made at a diffrent factory than the smaller bag, not only is it a better deal its made by the better of the two Purina companies.

Best of Luck to us all

Some more research:
Avian malaria is a disease of domestic, cage, and wild birds caused by species of the hematozoan parasites Plasmodium and Haemoproteus. Hemosporidia are microscopic, intracellular parasitic protozoans found within the blood cells and tissues of their avian hosts. Three closely related genera, Plasmodium, Haemoproteus, and Leucocytozoon, are commonly found in wild birds. Infections in highly susceptible species and age classes may result in death.
...transmitted from infected to uninfected birds by a variety of biting flies that serve as vectors, including mosquitoes, black flies, ceratopogonid flies (biting
midges or sandflies) and louse flies

Seems like during spring and summer we need to be vigilant about pests...agghhh!..catch 22 is what pest control is best as the ducks forage around the area.
