I just came home to find my favorite chicken injured. Her right eye is swollen and shut along with swollen waddles on both sides of her face. Her left eye is fine. I found a small amount of blood but other than that, I can't figure out what happened to her. She's 5 months old. I'm assuming an injury or pecked at.

She's very quiet and not moving. I've brought her into the house to keep her warm and safe. I flushed out the side of her face and gave her some Nutri-drench. What else should I do?? She's not interested in drinking at all but I'm leaving it out for her. I assume I should get some sort of antibiotics? She did just have a normal stool which I guess is a good sign.

I've attached a picture of her. I'm relatively new to chickens and haven't had one injured before! Would an injury to her eye cause both waddles to swell?

Hopefully someone out there has had a similar experience! Thanks in advance!

BTW, I am going to do a search on EVERYTHING I need to have on hand as far as first aid and make sure I'm well stocked in the future. I feel so bad for her!

It almost looks as if the lower part of her beak is missing. Is there any possibility that she might have gotten her head/beak caught in the pen wire and injured herself?

My goodness

Pore thing looks like she is in some pain.

My first "guess" would be she was in a fight with one of the other chickens. Is she cooped all day or does she free range? Snake maybe if she is free range

Sounds like you are doing what you can at the moment.

Wish I could be more help to you.

Good luck to you

Sourland, her beak is intact. I checked that first when I was giving her the nutridrench.

Chickenfever - they have "free" range by means of a 80 x 100 foot fenced area to roam. Plenty of room for 6 chickens. I did notice a stray dog on the other side of the fence when I got home. I wonder if she got too close to the fence where the dog was? She is a very curious chick. I haven't noticed her fighting with anyone else. She's not the lowest on the ladder either.
