Help! knowledge on torn tendons in dog!?

So last night our yorkie got stepped on by our mastiff and when we took him to the vet a few minutes ago it was ruled as a torn tendon the vet set it could be casted but probably wouldnt heal whithout surgery but we just had a foot surgery for a bunion and money wise are kinda broke any advice on how best to treat it or possibly heal whithout surgery?! Whats the Likley hood? And if any one has paid for surgery whats the general price range ?

Btw its his hock tendon thats damaged our mastif stepped on him

Exactly what kind of damage did the vet say it was? If your veterinarian said it won’t heal without surgery, I would believe that. Small dogs can do better using only 3 legs than larger ones. But he/she will likely be in pain a long time.

@CatWhisperer he said it was basically completely broken and that its could be casted but would most likely never heal properly unless surgery was involved. He said maybe it would heal in a cast but hed most likely never use his leg properly again.

Can we give him painkillers and ice it for now? Were still discussing what vets can do the surgery in our area. Our current vet is retiring and stopped delicate surgery awhile back.

For a Yorkers you can give 1/2 tablet baby aspirin twice a day. Ice for no longer than 20 minutes at a time. The sooner you get it fixed the better (obviously). Do not give Tylenol or ibuprofen.
