My RIR hen is having some trouble. For the past week she has only laid one good egg and laid several yokes and once it had a black substance with it. I am totally new to this chicken experience and don't know what to do for her. Her bottom is coated in a dried yoke mess. Please help. Thanks!

I know they need calcium to create hard, healthy shells. Hopefully someone who has had this problem can offer more advice...

They are getting layer pellets and oyster shell free choice. She doesn't come running when I bring in treats like the others do either.

Did she just start laying? Because when my RIRs and NHs just started laying last year, there were all kinds of freaky experimental looking things - eggs with no shell, or paper thing eggs, several double yolkers (loved those). But now that they're seasoned layers, none of that happens anymore. If she's new, I would chalk it up to her body just adjusting to the whole laying thing.
