Poor baby! I noticed her sleeping a lot or trying to today. She's been settled on my chest for the last few hours, trying to keep her warm. She woke, ate, and drank and about 20 minutes later she pooped and it was super watery. Not real poop looking mostly clear. She is a lavender Orpington we got about a week ago from a farm.

Watch for symptoms of Coccidiosis, some symptoms are runny/watery poop, fluffed feathers, lethargic. If concerned purchase Corid(amprolium) Dosage for Corid powder is 1/2 tsp per gallon of water. Dosage for Corid liquid is 2 tsp per gallon of water. Treat all chicks for 5 days,do not give vitamins during treatment(interferes with medication)give vitamins after treatment. Make sure she is eating/drinking,clear watery poop tells me she is not eating.

She ate treats, and a tiny bit of feed. Where can I find corid?? I live I Washington.
Feed stores may carry it in your area,if not a vet will have it. Also try adding warm water to her feed(so it resembles oatmeal)my chicks love this, gobble it up.

Thank you! I took her to an emergency vet tonight and they gave her fluids and a medication to kill the coccidiosis since her chicky poo came up positive. Probably over kill for a sweet little chick, but she is my daughter's, and our favorite, and I just gotta try. This is not something I need to worry about my dogs or cats getting, right? I know we'll need to treat our other chickens, but curious about my other pets.

Cats and dogs will be fine, cocci is species specific so other pets are safe. I understand,my chicks are my babies. If giving her anything other than chick feed, she will need grit.

Good point. I brought her in the house to keep her warm tonight. She spent most of this evening on my chest or snuggled in a towel. Will see about getting her something. She normally pecks in the yard.

Well, my chicky seemed better yesterday, and today is doing worse again. She seems very weak. I just gave her her 3rd dose of albon. Does anyone know when they are supposed to start perking up?

I only use Corid(amprolium) chicks start to feel better within 24 hours. I have never used Sulfadimethoxine(albon), so cannot advise on how long it would take for her to feel better. I believe Sulfadimethoxine is Sulmet, which only kills 2 strains of Coccidiosis,Corid(amprolium) kills 9 strains. Sulmet is harder on chicks, this much i do know. If she shows no improvement,i would consider switching medication.

I defiently agree with above post! Corid kills all 9 strains your med is going to only kill two and what if she had the one of the other 7 strains it does not cover? . You can get corid at most feed stores. Time is of essence.I also suggest corid. best wishes and hope she gets well soon!
