Hi all! I have a golden comet hen about 9 months old. About 2-3 weeks ago, I noticed she was sluggish and when I picked her up, her chest bone was very pronounced. I right away separated her and thought maybe her crop. So, I gave her nothing but water for over 24 hours and massaged her crop and gave her veg. oil, etc and her crop cleared. So, it didn't seem to be that..I then started her on wazine in her water for well over a week--thought it might be worms. Now she's still weak(falls asleep just standing there), but still eats...I called Peter Brown(chicken doctor) yesterday and he thought maybe cocci? Her poop is very liguidy(is that a word?) and clear, white, with black poop in it as well. I feel like I'm grasping at straws here...I have no idea what to do...any suggestions??? Note--she has no other signs of anything else--no runny nose, eyes or anything...PLEASE help!!! Thanks in advance!!!

I'm posting under my DH's account. This happened to our BO on Saturday. She was really skinny and suddenly lethargic. She was just laying under the coop all day. I brought her inside to figure out what was going on. She died within a few hours. I don't know how to do the link thing, but thread was "My buff is lethargic and unresponsive.." by mychickensrock. I really hope it's not the same thing for you. There are pics of our girl, Buffy, on there.

Sounds like Mr. Brown is probably right. I'd put her on tylan or another antibiotic and keep her away from the rest of my flock. The other issue is, do others have it also?

Hmmmm...you know, I don't know! She is in with so many hens, it's hard to tell, but I do know she hasn't laid since I've had her penned seperately. I'm going to look more into this...
