Please help impacted crop and limping duck. My duck for the past two days he has been sitting more than often. Today he started limping. He is eating and drinking. Please help I do t want to loose him. @Isaac 0 can you help? Could it be niacin deficiency? Although this morning he was not limping

Is the same one who has had problems with his legs?

Have you inspected his legs, to make sure the joints bend properly, and look for discoloration, swelling, warm spots, or lesions on the footpads? Could you post pictures of the legs?

How old is the duck? What diet is he on?

Regarding the impacted crop. What makes you think he is suffering from that? Do you have pictures of his poop?

No this is the duck that got punctured from the dog however he recovered and has been very healthy since. He does not have Bumblefoot. Both of his legs feel warm however his right one does NOT feel any warmer than the left. The right leg however, if you take a close look it looks just a bit more swollen. He is around 6 months old. Got him at TSC May 2. I looked at his crop and it doesn’t look big anymore as you can see. Maybe I looked when he was just done eating. Besides their sole food every now and then I feed them treats such as peas, grapes, pumpkin seeds, tomates, and lettuce. 2 days ago I noticed he was sitting more than often. Yesterday I started looking up why it could be but I couldn’t find an answer. So I was going to ask here why he was sitting so much if he did it today. But today when I got home he was limping :(

Soul food

his legs and him limping:

can I feed him children’s ibreprofen? I saw a dose on here thag said a vet recommended .16mL per pound but she did if it seem too high we can do .11mL per pound. He’spretty pig. Around 7 pounds. So his dose would be .77mL

Thanks for providing the additional information.

Looking at the video, the limp doesn't look all that bad to me, and it's likely he just tripped over something or got it caught in something, and sprained, or strained the leg. Nothing uncommon with heavyweight duck breeds.

You can give Ibuprofen, but if you do, he needs to be set in a pen that reduces his mobility because the ibuprofen will directly interfere with the way he perceives pain and may cause him to overuse the leg, and further damage it internally.

For the limp, you can administer some B vitamins for leg health, try soaking the leg in Epsom salt water, and if needed, move him into a pen that reduces his movement, and put padding inside. Generally, though, give them time, and they usually heal up fine. It's just a matter of time.

He seems quite healthy, I doubt he is suffering from an impacted crop. If you're concerned check his crop in the morning and pay attention to his feces, and feed/water intake.

Okay! Glad it’s nothing serious. I will give him ibreprofen tomorrow night before I Locke them in their hose. That way he’s not moving much since they can’t move much around their house. Is it okay if I take him to the lake? If I pick him up and walk him there? Does swimming help?

Letting him swim would be good. Just don't make him over use the legs.

The Ibuprofen dose is 5-10mg/kg two-three times a day. Or if using the liquid ( 100mg per five ML/ 20mg per ml) you can administer 0.11ml per pound of bodyweight.

First, Merry Christmas to all. My Cayuga, Midnight had a slight limp yesterday. This morning it’s much worse. I can’t call a vet since it’s the holiday and I’m not even sure if our regular vet for the dog sees ducks. I’m almost positive he hurt his leg getting out of the small pool in the duck house. Getting into the pool is easy as it’s placed n a hole n the house but because of his size, I’m pretty sure he has trouble getting out; my husband is going to add some bricks as steps today to the inside pool for him to get out easier. As the other 3 ducks run around the yard, my poor Midnight tries to keep up but doesn’t have much luck and ends up just sitting down. Midnight is very large, the biggest of our 4 ducks and none of the other ducks mess with him, as he’s made it clear he’s the Alpha. Should we bring Midnight inside until his leg heals? Or is it ok keeping him with the other ducks? How can I get an accurate weight for him? And would it b ok to give infant Motrin to him for the pain? The only other ibuprofen I have are the pills, which are 200mg, I think. I can only hope someone will be reading today, I’m truly concerned about him.

How bad is the limp? Mine still has a slight limp but it’s much better. It’s like off an on. I could only soak his foot once so I’m hoping to get some epsom salt. Do you have epsom salt? Is he eating and drinking fine? I would try to limit movement. Hopefully @Isaac 0 do you have some more advice?
