I use cayenne pepper in cornmeal mush to worm my girls once a month. From what I understand, it shocks the worms into turning loose from the intestinal wall and they pass out. Yeah, right back into the dirt and the process starts over........ Repeat. I also use pumpkin seeds. I have never used chemical wormers, but have been a chicken owner only 1+ year. My girls seem to be healthy, I see no worms in droppings as some have reported here. I try to live as organically as possible because I have chemical sensitive issues and it just makes sense not to ingest poison whenever possible. I know there is a few weeks not to eat the eggs, but the poison goes out in droppings, which goes into the soil, which contaminates it.
Here I have been thinking I am doing good, and worms INSIDE the egg show up! YUCKY!
I am glad I haven't found any in mine. If they are all healthy and no visible signs of worms, then how do I tell if I am doing the right thing (worming) or not?
