Help--Look at this pic of chick's hock joint--To cull or not to cull?

I very gently slipped in back into place and wrapped the bandage in the same direction that I rotated the tendon. I could only get it to go into place with her leg bent at the hock, basically the position she was holding it. And it did not pop as much as I could feel it move under her skin.My chick did not have as much swelling and I'm not sure if that makes a difference. Have you searched ways to reduce the swelling? How long has she been this way?

Am new here to the forum but have read all the posts on how to deal with the hock issue. Our chick arrived crushed on the bottom of the box-with exactly the same looking hock as the one posted. We decided to try to fix it by wrapping it in a lightly padded 1/2 plastic straw & taping it straight. My husband built a little sling for him/her & after about an hour of both of us working on getting him to stay put in it...not near as easy as I/m writing about it here...and propped up some EXACT bird food. He's going a little nuts..peeping most of the time when not eating or asleep. Will plan on keeping him immobile for 3 days & then see if it's staying in place. Will lift him up slightly to scratch him, check his bottom, etc. but not going to let him use the leg. Hopefully it'll work. Am going to try to post the pictures of the sling & his rigging to feed him. There's another chick in the box with him...he has some foot issues...& helps for company.
Well, uploaded the image, but don't know how to get it hooked onto this post.https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/112990_dscn0543.
Oh, so excited, finally read how to do it so that it made sense-posting pictures that is! Kept thinking it'd show up BEFORE I hit post.

We also had to wrap the good leg at the hock a little..or he would pull it up & out of the hole in the sling..used MEFIX tape..just what I had on hand...a cloth, soft tape.
If we built it again, we'd make the front of the sling pull up slightly more, with a little neck scoop cut into it..as he keeps using his wings to boost himself half out of the sling. We also put a little leather string across his back/neck to prevent to much upward/forward flinging. We did get the poop hole cut into it at the right place...although quite by accident.

Thats a brilliant idea! My 12 week old baby frizzle the one on my avatar fell down the ladder of her new coop a week ago. I have her inside and ive tried loads of splints but they all keep falling off.. Im going to get my sewing kit out and make one of them.. Ill post pics later..Well done you..Tracy x

Both of my peeps died. They seemed fine, then the first one -with the crooked feet, gave it up, then the following day the chick in the sling, that looked great that evening, was breathing her last that next am. You wonder what you did to make the change in them. I was giving them the Exact food. Does anyone know if that could have caused it? Hopefully it wasn't the temperature...I was trying to keep it around 85-90 but was hard to keep it stable. They both had gone from white poop to dark poop a few hours before they died. The rest of the 18 are looking great thank goodness.

I am wondering if my chick had dislocated hock joint , the tendon is way off to the inside and there is a big protrusion on it outside , and infection set in the leg won't straighten or move , under the infection scab it looks like a bone joint head but I can't twist it back in place , please someone help me .

This is an old post I see. I think I have a chick with the same issues. I feel so helpless

This is what my chick looks like right now. I’m curious if yours died or lived. I’ve got mine separated and it’s eating and drinking just fine, and hopping around. But that joint looks like it could pop the bone through - makes me nervous. But I don’t want to put a chick “out of its misery” if it’s such a little fighter. Hard call… I’m wanting to see if mine pulls through. I wonder if other peoples’ have as well….
