The foot & a just above it are missing from my rooster - a BEAUTIFUL Jubilee Orpington. He's been hobbling around best he can, goes WHERE he can all around the yard but I can tell he may begin to develop spinal issues from the uneveness in his gait. He's stood his ground when attacked by another, has a private pen 3'x3' close to my deck for 'outside time', a satchel & diaper so I can carry him with me & an indoor box with a comfy dog bed with sides which he seems to love & lets me know when he's soiled it.

I ordered a couple of prostheses from 2 different manufacturers but 1 didn't fit & the other was hard & semed to be uncomfortable. I fahioned a prosthesis out of a piece of pool noodle & he seemed to be adjusting to it but he shrdded it. Was thinking about pipe insulation as it seems he'd be okay once he adjusts his balance but he ends up shredding it. Anyone have any ideas what I may cover the end to keep him from shredding it or a prosthesis I may purchase? All this is fine & good but it's not the same as being n his own - especially being able to have a lady friend.

Do vets ever have devices such as this? Maybe one of you BYC members who have experience with things from a hardware store may have some ideas for this handsome fella? I was kinda kicking around an idea for a PVC connector for a foot base but drawing a blank after that. Seems like, if I could figure out how to put something over the pool noodle (or pipe insulation) on the foot part so he coldn't shred it . . . .

I have heard of people making 3 D printer artificial legs for chickens who have lost a foot to frostbite. Here is a link that I just saw:

Thanks but been there, done that twice & returned both. That's why I'm resorting to my own resources. I'm going to call local vet to see if she has any ideas. I ALMOST had one for him but he shredded it so trying to figure out what would be a good covering to protect the foot. He's okay & a trooper. For now he'll just have to divide his time between his outside pen, his night time indoor bed with me & whenever I can divide my attention with him & responsibilities. Thinking about some way to fashion a harness for him until I can work this out.

Mr. Peep & I thank you for your kind thoughts & effort.
