I have four baby chicks — three were supposed to be females and one a male. My Wheaten Olive Egger (Captain Morgan), however, is constantly stressed because he’s locked in an ongoing battle with my Black Ameraucana. He’s panting and looks exhausted from it. This is them today:

Since the Black Ameraucana doesn’t have a visible comb that I can identify as obvious, can anyone help determine the sex?

Kraken (the Black Ameraucana who I posted about when she first arrived as she was out of this world different than any other chicken I have encountered) has always been the friendliest with humans, the loudest... non stop chirping wants to be carried or rides on shoulders, cuddles on the sofa and the crowd favorite — but this constant fight for dominance is wearing my fuzzy-footed Wheaten out. They’re chest-bumping every few minutes, and now that they’re 39 days old, it’s getting noticeably more aggressive.

Question: what does everyone think? is kraken just a really dominant female? or a rooster who doesn't like his pen mate?

Can you send a comb photo? Here is my ee x ameraucana rooster that I hatched (he is on the right, left is his sister) his comb is very cushy and pink even at 5 weeks old.

Edit: he does look like a rooster upon rewatching the video.

Definitely not red/pink, but more pronounced. Dont ask me why they are on top of the sleepy-cage (we call it- as they spend the day outside, and sleep inside at night). I think it is new and exciting with all the fresh plants and such. Here are some screen shots:

I don’t think that comb is especially roostery even for the age. My guess is it’s just a personality thing. I’ve had pullets that were very dominant right out of the gate. With the size difference I expect Captain Morgan will eventually get the upper hand and Kraken will figure out it’s not in her best interest to challenge him. 🤞

This is such a great response — and as I’m reading it, I’m literally watching them, waiting for the moment the chaos starts. It’s funny how the Opal Legbar (Ouzo), despite being the smallest, never gets picked on. She has however- developed a habit of blocking everyone else form the food- by way of opening her wings and laying over the opening for no reason.

I really hope you’re right about the sexing! With a small flock (6 chickens total), there’s very little margin for error when it comes to my goals: egg quantity, color variety, shipping/hatching, personality balance, and peaceful cohabitation.

Don't get me wrong- I love them all (well my gypsy jungle girl- maybe not as much- but she still gets all the same treatment as the others- which is by definition 'spoiled rotten').

How old is Kraken? From my experience, a round plump pea comb always means it's rooster if under 6-8 weeks. Maybe Kraken will prove me wrong. Who knows.

I'm updating with new images- Please confirm male or female.
Kraken (black americuana) is still a cuddle bug (unbelievably so) but in constant battle with Captain Morgan (who is a rooster- same age). They are all 7 weeks.

Crossing my fingers it is a pullet- two roosters don't make a right.

The frazzle tail- that has been since kraken was young. Always looks messy.

Rooster. My Am mixes have frazzly tails too. I think they'll even out when they grow up. My mature Easter eggers pullets have the shiniest most flawless tail feathers I've ever seen.

I cannot help to sex from those photos, but in my experience, the friendliest chicks have always been males.
Part of it is that females are much more cautious.
